“Sex Ed” Fallon

Although Ed Fallon has been painted as unelectable for a variety of reasons, including his support for Ralph Nader in 2000, what really makes him vulnerable is his repeated votes to protect sex offenders versus the general public. Fallon was the only state representative to vote against a bill that banned sex offenders from living within 2000 feet of a school or day care center, Fallon was the only member of the Iowa House to voted against against extending the statute of limitations for prosecuting child sex abuse, Fallon was the only member of the Iowa House to vote against increased funding to monitor sex offenders and Fallon also voted against tougher penalties against people who solicit children to commit a sex act. Fallon even cast the sole vote against making bestiality a crime!

This repeated pattern of voting against public safety raises grave questions about Fallon’s judgment. While some Democrats have been painted as “soft on crime” in campaigns in the past, it is apparent from Ed Fallon’s record that he is one of the few who is genuinely soft on crime and in a highly disturbing way. This is not about someone who favors rehabilitating prisoners, Ed Fallon wants sex offenders to be able to avoid prosecution for their crimes. This is not someone who thinks non-violent offenders shouldn’t be in jail, Ed Fallon thinks child molesters shouldn’t be imprisoned. Not to mention that although Ed Fallon crusades against hog lots, “Sex Ed” seems to think that sexually assaulting animals is perfectly fine.

“Sex Ed” Fallon has a record that is disturbingly out of touch with most people’s basic values. He finds campaign finance reforms promoted by Paul Wellstone and Russ Feingold to be appalling but thinks it’s perfectly fine to have sex with sheep. He thinks its acceptable to make up statements from the FEC but it’s wrong to lock away people convicted of molesting children. While Fallon may boast a degree in Religious Studies, it’s clear that he didn’t take too many courses in morality.

Iowa Has A Problem With Taking Advantage of Children

Well, first it was this story about an Osceola, IA, woman who was involved in a high-tech kiddie porn ring:

In this case he says investigators think they were distributing “child molestation on demand.” Instead of selling videotapes or e-mailing photos, the investigators charge people were committing acts of child molestation and streaming the video live to viewers as it happened. Patrons would request certain acts be performed, and “get it on demand,” what Counts describes as “pretty sick stuff.”

And then it was this one:

Daniel Dean Duello, 34, of Mount Auburn, was charged with sexual exploitation by a school employee after a two-year investigation, police said.

Duello is accused of having a sexual relationship with a female student from June through December 2004 while he was head varsity football coach and assistant varsity girls’ basketball coach at Vinton-Shellsburg High School. Duello resigned after the allegations surfaced in 2005.

And then another one!  Hull, IA, teachers’ aide Kelly Jean Cuperus, 38, had a relationship with a 15-year-old student (which continued on after his 16th birthday):

Sioux County Attorney Melissa O’Rourke said the sex abuse and lascivious conduct counts are connected to two incidents in which sexual conduct took place last summer, when the boy was 15 years old. Iowa’s age of consent is 16, she said.

The count of sexual exploitation by a school employee alleges that the pair also engaged in sexual conduct several times during the current school year, O’Rourke said.

Anyone think that Iowa has a problem?  This Register article describes the second two cases together and reveals that the Duello case went unresolved for over a year!

Vinton Police Chief Jeff Tilson said the student, who has since graduated, was a member of the varsity girls basketball team, of which Duello was the assistant head coach.

Tilson said he was notified of the alleged sexual conduct in Sept. 2004. He said the investigation concluded after about 1 1/2 years after the police department was able to “track down witnesses – current and former students.”

He still has his teaching license, although that’s finally under review, too.

LTEs are fun

I guess the “worst form of child abuse” bit was taken to heart by some. Others are just nutty.

Check out these sweet LTEs from City View:

Three wishes

My first wish would be to provide free Kum & Go milk coupons to all mothers with young children who play the Lottery’s TouchPlay machines at their neighborhood convenience stores. And even better would be free childcare at new Kum & Go/Iowa Lottery daycare centers for Gold Card TouchPlay members. My second wish is install the new Lottery TouchPlay machines at all I-235 & I-80 rest stops. Each player would receive a free Iowa road map or visitors guide. The state of Iowa could put the new TouchPlay machines on the front of their 2007 Iowa visitors guide as a new activity for the entire family. The new Iowa road maps would have decals noting all TouchPlay locations on I-235 and I-80 rest stops. My third and last wish is to draft Bill Krause (owner of Kum & Go) and Ed Stanek (Iowa Lottery czar) as independent candidates for Iowa governor. All net revenues from TouchPlay could fund their campaigns. Just think of a new Grant Wood painting with Bill and Ed. A great utopia and we would all prosper. God, I’m glad I live in Iowa.

Kids playing with themselves

Rep. Dawn Pettengill is taking the wrong tack sponsoring a bill to ban the sale of sex toys to children (”Bad Vibrations,” Feb. 9). She doesn’t want minors to see or have certain devices designed for sexual stimulation. If sexual stimulation is Pettengill’s concern, a better solution would be to pass a law requiring minors to wear mittens at all times when they are in their bedrooms or bathrooms. That should effectively prevent sexual stimulation and would alienate only minors who don’t vote, while Pettengill’s bill would alienate shop owners who do vote and who also pay much-needed taxes.
