Ed Fallon, Lying Again
May 22nd, 2008 at 07:47pm Geraldine
In an interview with a progressive blog today, Ed Fallon claimed, “We’re doing really well, our own internal polling shows us up.” It’s not a surprise for Fallon to make a claim when the Boswell campaign released its own internal from Anzalone Lizst, the firm that polled for new Democratic Congressmen Don Cazayoux and Travis Childers, that had Boswell receiving 65% of the vote.
This jibes with the KCCI poll that had Boswell winning by a two to one margin. However, Fallon’s campaign finance reports, which show him having only $28,000 on hand the day before he had to meet payroll, does not show him spending any money on pollsters. (Nor does it show him spending on money on television, radio, mail, newspaper advertisements or any other form of paid media) So if Ed Fallon hasn’t hired a pollster and can’t afford to pay one, why does he claim he has internal polling, let alone internal polling that seems at odds with all the other information about this race?
Our guess is that Ed Fallon probably took a survey, not a poll. A survey is unscientific and involves asking a bunch of people without dealing with complicated things like sample size or filtering likely voters. This means that Ed Fallon may actually be ahead according to his “polling”, provided, of course, that a third of the electorate are vegetarians from Sherman Hill and everyone who votes outside Polk County is a member of CCI. Then again, this blog may be given Fallon too much credit for assuming that he merely mistook the difference between a survey and a poll. (Which is covered the second week of Statistics 101).
Fallon has a history of lying and of sleazy behavior. He may have just made up his “internal polling” entirely, which would be a good deal for Fallon. After all, the less he spends on internal polling, the more money he can pay himself.

I find it interesting that you are calling someone a liar and sleezy when you are posting anonymously, spouting off lies left and right (well actually the all of the lies seem to be coming from the right.)

“noneed,” I quite agree that this an unwarrented attack on a progressive worth supporting on actblue but none of it is lies. It seems that these all facts just that they are interpreted in a way you (and I) disagree with. Offering a well reasoned and complete rebuttal is the best way to fight back against blue dogs, not petulance.

The “strength” of Geraldine’s blog campaign, is taking passing remarks out of context and blowing them out of proportion. George is right to say that none of the facts cited in this blog are untrue, but the writer does an excellent job of putting together a concoction from these facts that probably goes something like this.
Recipe for a typical Iowa Progress Blog about Ed Fallon:
10% Credible facts
30% Unchecked bias
30% Journalistic spin
30% Incriminating-sounding language
No, Geraldine’s accusations are never baseless, they are just a case of using small facts and remarks made in passing to make huge conclusions.
It’s usually possible to argue for just about any side, provided you have some sort of evidence, but repeatedly calling someone a liar, sleaze, and a freeloader doesn’t make your argument any better. Do us all a favor and be a little more creative in your accusations.

*creativity does not include searching thesaurus.com for synonyms of sleaze and liar.

Fallon has said many times that his campaign is doing no formal polling.
I think he was referring to direct voter contacts showing them ahead.
Sleazy behavior is using taxpayer money to print, produce and mail campaign-style glossy mailers, as Boswell has done several times without even disclosing how many taxpayer dollars were used.

Desmoinesdem once again proves how stupid she is. First off geraldine was just pointing out another time fallon was making another out landish claim with no basis in fact or reality. Second I bet fallon is ahead if he has only been calling the people in his old state house and the members of PCCI. Third before the boswell campaign pointed what was going on with I’m for Iowa fallon was playing it off as a non-profit and soliticing donations in the way that non profits do. People who were probably donating 50 bucks to what they thought was a good cause. Instead that money just when to make sure fallon and his creepy life partner lynn heuss could continue to live without having to work.
