I doubt Fallon would run against Cownie because he has been a strong voice for the environment. Cownie, however, may decide to challenge Grassley, leaving an open seat.

Fallon might take on Mauro since he has a long history of uncovering wasteful spending and scandal, such as CIETEC.

I doubt Fallon would take on Grassley. If he loses to Boswell, he'd have a hard time gaining support from party officials and I'd think there'd be others eager to run, such as Vilsack.

As for Fallon feeding from the public trough. I am a teacher, does that mean I am a bottom feeder too?

Finally, when did this blog turn into a Right leaning blog? You seem so in love with Boswell's conservative votes that you have lost touch with reality.

Geraldine doesn't seem to mind the Democratic leadership in the legislature, many of whom have been "feeding from the public trough" their whole lives. Geraldine doesn't mind that our legislative leaders take money from industries and then block legislation that progressives and environmentalists support, while twisting arms to get bad bills (like the odor study bill) passed.

Geraldine, Fallon had a safe seat in the legislature and could have stayed there forever, but he has run for different offices instead. I love how you try to twist that into something sleazy.

Unfortunately, as a Democrat, I do not think Chuck Grassley is defeatable.

Republicans gave up on Harkin in 2008.

We might as well give up on Grassley in 2010. They only way they leave is either they die or they retire.

Fallon would be a credible opponent...but would be cut off at 40 percent MAX.

This blog has turned into a disappointing forum for slander and personal attacks, and is representative of everything that is wrong with political journalism today. As a Grinnell College student and an Iowan, I can remember when this blog used to be an insightful resource for progressive politics in Iowa. Geraldine, I think all us can understand by now that you don't like Fallon very much. However, your endless bashing is getting old, and you don't write about much else. This kind of negativity doesn't represent progress, Iowa values, or democracy. I sincerely hope you aren't and never become a real journalist - people who write things like this are a big part of the reason that nearly half of America no longer cares about democracy or voting. This blog is dirty and ugly - please give us all a break and write in a way that is less hateful
